  1. What is PI Global Roaming Access Service?
PI Global Access Roaming Service is a service that gives Pacnet subscribers a local dial-in number to access the Internet when they travel overseas. This is a solution for most traveling Internet users i.e. finding a local dial-in number to connect to the Internet when they travel. When you subscribe to this service, you are able to connect to the Internet through ISPs in many countries. It is no longer necessary to subscribe to a local ISP just for the sake of being able to surf the Internet and you can also save on phone bills.
  2. How does it work?
The use of intelligent routing and software that resides on the participating Internet Service Providers’ (ISP) computer system makes this roaming service possible.Basically, the users need to maintain only one account with Pacnet and when they travel, they log in with their email address (e.g. userid@pacific.net.sg). This is to determine with which ISP you are registered. Then a request will be sent back to Singapore to authenticate you as a user.
  3. What are the benefits?
    • log into a local number while maintaining a single account
    • access to all Internet services like email and the web
    • use existing, familiar web browser/email programs
    • pay local phone bills (no IDD calls)
    • consolidated invoice
  4. What are the available roaming numbers?
Currently it is over 40,000 local access points, which is the summation of the local access points of both iPass and GRIC.For a list of countries and cities covered under iPass, click here.
  5. What are the charges?
Basically there are two charges, the session charge as well as the traffic charge. For iPass, the session charge is S$0.50 per login. For GRIC, it will be S$4.50 per month for unlimited logins. The traffic charges for both will be similar.
  6. Which Global Roaming Networks should I choose, iPass or GRIC?
Once you have ensured that both networks covered the locations you are travelling to, you can then based your choice on the session charge. For iPass, it is S$0.50 per login, hence more suitable for subscribers with low numbers of logins. On the other hand, for GRIC, it is a flat fee of S$4.50 for unlimited logins, more suitable for subscribers who login frequently. The traffic charges for both networks are similar.
  7. For one roaming address, can I use both iPass and GRIC Global Roaming Networks?
Yes, you can used both Global Roaming Networks. You would be able to enjoy wider coverage this way. Please note that you would be charged for both session charge.
  8. How will I be billed?
The charges for roaming will appear on your monthly invoice statement from Pacnet. The usage under PI Global Roaming Access service cannot be offset against the subscribers existing usage plan.
  9. Is there any special software or configuration I need?
Yes, you will need to download the appropriate dialer/script for your system. Click on your operating system to see the relevant instructions (Win 95/98/NT, Mac)
  10. Who do I call for technical assistance while overseas?
If you are calling from outside Singapore, the number will be +65-6872-6260. The operators will only accept calls from outside Singapore at this number for the convenience of our subscribers, while overseas. They will not accept local calls.
  11. Where can I find the latest information about the roaming service?
To see the latest updates on Global Roaming Access Service, go to Global Roaming page.
For information on the status of the roaming network, you should go to the Network Status page.
  12. Can I roam with handheld computing devices?
Currently, iPass and Pacnet do not offer formal support for Windows CE, Palm Pilot or Psion handheld devices, and do not provide technical support for these platforms. iPass is investigating full-functioning dialers for handhelds which include two features critical to roaming users: support for scripting, and remote phone book updates. Some technical users may want to use an unsupported work-aroundappropriate for connecting each device to the Internet via the iPass network with their handheld devices. These work-arounds normally require that the user locate and manually enter a script to identify the dial-in user as an iPass user. (This scripting is handled invisibly and automatically on iPass dialers for Windows 95/98/NT and Macintosh.)Handheld users can follow the directions found here for Windows CE and Palm Pilot. This can give access to iPass’ entire network of 8,000+ POPs.

Please note that the directions and steps shown in the next page are provided to you as it is without any technical support from either iPass or Pacnet. We regret we are unable to assist any further in the usage of handheld computing devices for roaming and will not be able to take any technical support calls or e-mails for assistance.

  13. Which languages does iPassConnect 3.51 support?
The supported languages are unchanged from earlier releases: Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazilian) and Spanish.
  14. Which operating systems does iPassConnect 3.51 support?
The supported operating systems are unchanged from iPassConnect 3.50: iPassConnect 3.51 is supported on Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4 or later and Windows XP Home or Professional (Service Packs 1 and 2). iPass strongly encourages the use of Windows XP SP2. Note that iPassConnect requires Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 or 7 also be installed.
  15. Will iPassConnect 3.51 support Windows Vista?
No. iPassConnect 3.51 does not support on Windows Vista.
  16. What are the new features in iPassConnect 3.51?
Although iPassConnect 3.51 was not conceived as a feature release, there are nonetheless several new items of note:

    • Improved Detection of Non-Broadcast SSIDs. Experience has shown that pre-existing Wi-Fi associations are very common, so iPassConnect 3.51 looks for an existing association on every scan cycle (approximately once every 15 seconds) and performs non-broadcast scanning whenever the device is not associated.
    • Live Logon: Support for Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (RDC). The iPassConnect 3.51 GINA enables transparent support for RDC connections to the host on which iPassConnect is installed.
    • Live Logon: Support for AutoAdminLogon. When the Windows AutoAdminLogon feature is enabled, the iPassConnect Live Logon GINA will silently pass control to MSGINA without interrupting the automated logon process.
    • Support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 (IE7). In November 2007, iPass announced support for IE7 across the range of currently available iPassConnect for Windows releases. In addition, iPassConnect 3.51 is the first release to be designed and tested explicitly for IE7.
    • Support for the Web Proxy Auto Discovery (WPAD) protocol. iPassConnect 3.51 can now obtain proxy settings when Internet Explorer’s proxy setting is configured to “Automatically detect settings”.
    • Signed Installation Files. Each iPassConnect installation package is digitally signed by iPass for assurance of its authenticity.
    • Installation Log File Moved. The iPassConnect installation file has been moved from %SystemDrive%\IPC.LOG to %TEMP%\iPassConnect_Install.log.
